Dr Wuji Zhang has been awarded the Chancellor's Prize for Excellence in the PhD Thesis 2025 on "Understanding human immunity to influenza and SARS-CoV-2 infections and vaccinations" at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection & Immunity (Australia).

Dr Wuji Zhang investigated inflammatory, humoral and cellular immune responses towards influenza and SARS-CoV-2 infections and vaccinations. He characterized SARS-CoV-2 specific T-cell responses in Australian First Nations peoples, revealing robust and prototypical T-cell responses in these individuals. His findings provide insights into optimal T-cell responses in both healthy and highrisk groups. His work is significant for its global impact at the forefront of research on immunity to SARS-CoV-2 and contributes to “closing the gap” in health care for First Nations peoples.
The Chancellor's Prize for Excellence in the PhD Thesis is awarded each year to up to six nominees every year.
