Dr Roberto BRUZZONE, Knight of l’Ordre National du Mérite

Dr Roberto BRUZZONE - CEO of HKU-Pasteur Research Centre - has been decorated as Knight of "l’Ordre National du Mérite" by Mr Arnaud BARTHELEMY, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, on the 17th of February 2012 at the French residence. The Consul General congratulated Roberto for his prominent contribution to the advancement of biomedical research in infectious diseases, and for his commitment to fostering the exchange and dialogue in research and teaching between France and Hong Kong.


Many distinguished members of The University of Hong Kong such as Dr Paul TAM, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of HKU and Dr Roland CHIN, President of Research Grant Council, and friends of HKU-Pasteur Research Centre celebrated his outstanding achievements in research, higher education and management.


Roberto was born in Italy and studied medicine at University “La Sapienza” in Rome. After work at the University of Geneva and Harvard Medical School he joined Institut Pasteur in 1995. Roberto is widely recognized for his work on direct cell-cell communication through connexins and associated human diseases. Since October 2006, Roberto serves as Chief Executive Officer of HKU-PRC and also co-Director of the Course of Molecular Biology of the Cell at Institut Pasteur in Paris. He was the Scientific Coordinator of the RESPARI programme and is actively involved in other major international consortia.
