2013 has been an exceptional year for the HKU-Pasteur Virology Course. Indeed we celebrated 10 years of the course with alumni and the 30 years of HIV research by focusing on HIV/AIDS. The 10th edition of the course gathered 28 young and talented students from 11 countries (Australia, Bangladesh, PR China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam) and 18 distinguished lecturers in HIV/AIDS field from 9 countries (Australia, Belgium, PR China, France, Hong Kong, Spain, Thailand, UK and USA). One of the highlights of the course was the participation of our friend and colleague from Institut Pasteur Professor Françoise BARRE-SINOUSSI, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2008 and President of the International AIDS Society. Françoise delivered lectures and inspirational speeches and closely interacted with the students for a whole week. Directors, lecturers, faculty and students are most grateful for her time spent in Hong Kong.
During a very cheerful award dinner Zhiwei, Noël and Roberto, the directors of the course, praised the students for their work, achievements and in particular their participation. Sarah LLOYD (University of Melbourne, Australia), Yan LI (Institut Pasteur, France) and Norliana KHAIRUDDIN (University of Malaya, Malaysia) received special prizes and Gibran RUBIO QUINANARES (Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Medicas y Nutrition Salvador Zubiran, Mexico) came first in this year course. He won a one-week trip to Institut Pasteur, Paris, France offered by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau for the second consecutive year and represented by Dr Isabelle SAVES, Attaché (Scientific & Academic affairs).
