International Symposium on “Surveillance and Discovery in Respiratory and Other Emerging Infectious”: Summary Report Available

The symposium on "Surveillance and Discovery in Respiratory and Other Emerging Diseases", organized by the Institut Pasteur International Network in the Asia-Pacific region on May 29-31, 2011 in Phnom Penh aimed to be a forum for Pasteur Institutes and their partners in the Asia-Pacific Region to discuss major advances and gaps in the understanding of emerging infectious diseases. Major achievements of these projects were presented and their impact was discussed. It marked the conclusion of one of the flagship projects of the Network: SISEA (Surveillance and Investigation of Epidemics in South-East Asia), a public health-oriented initiative mainly supported by the French Development Agency (AFD), but also by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

There were 180 participants from various national and renowned international institutions, including the delegation of directors and researchers from the Institut Pasteur International Network in the Asia-Pacific region (PR China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Korea, New Caledonia and Cambodia), staff from the International Division of Institut Pasteur (France) as well as representatives from: U.S Department of Health and Human Services, World Health Organization (WHO) Geneva, WHO Cambodia, WPRO Manila, US CDC (Cambodia), REDI Center (Singapore), RIKEN (Japan), Wellcome Trust (Lao PDR and Vietnam), UNICEF (Cambodia), PATH (Cambodia), Hong Kong University, Mérieux Foundation, National Public Health Laboratory of Singapore (Ministry of Health) and many others who attended this meeting.
