MOOC: Diagnosis and prognosis biomarkers in global health

Registrations are open!

Dates: 29 May - 13 July 2017

This MOOC set up by the Institut Pasteur is organized into 4 modules:

general information on biomarkers (definition and methodological aspects of biomarkers)
biomarkers in infectious diseases (HIV, arbovirus, malaria, tuberculosis, etc.),
biomarkers in oncology,
biomarkers in metabolic and inflammatory diseases,
followed by 2 short concluding sessions on future perspectives for biomarkers.

For each module, the forum will be open for discussion.

A bachelor of science is recommended to follow this MOOC.

Single Molecule & Super-resolution Microscopy in Biomedical Research

Date: August 20-26, 2017
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: May 31, 2017

Venue: LKS Faculty of Medicine, 21 Sassoon Road, Pokfulam, Hong Kong

Co-organized by:

  • Faculty Core Facility, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong

  • School of Biomedical Science, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong

Introduction
The ability to assess and interrogate biological processes at the level of the single cell and the single molecule is revealing a new complexity in which phenotypic cell-to-cell variability emerges as a result of highly deterministic processes.  In single cell and single molecule approaches, imaging offers the unique advantage of observing these biological circuits function over time in intact cells, as well as the exciting possibility of quantitatively understanding the deterministic processes contributing to phenotypic cellular variability.

Objectives
In this course, the aim is to bring together scientific leaders in the integration of imaging tools with conventional and next generation “omic” tools that enable the analysis of biological circuits at the single molecule and single cell level.

Participants’ profile:
This course will be aimed at advanced postgraduate students (MPhil and PhD), post-docs and Junior Group Leaders who have already started or are planning to use new and emerging techniques around single cell & single molecule analysis in their ongoing research projects.
