BNP Paribas Hong Kong continues their support to HKU-Pasteur Research Centre

For the second consecutive year, BNP Paribas Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) has renewed its partnership in Hong Kong with the HKU-Pasteur Research Centre.

The Group is donating the allocated budget on year-end business gift to HKU-PRC to fund the study of dengue virus. This study aims to achieve a complete understanding of the molecular interactions between the virus and the host cells. Particular emphasis will be placed on the mechanisms regulating assembly, budding, trafficking and egress of dengue virus, as well as the immune response of the host to the virus. This grant supports also the training of young scientists and has allowed talented young scientists to attend the 8th HKU-Pasteur Virology Course on arboviruses.

Recently, Dr Roberto BRUZZONE, HKU-PRC CEO and Dr Pei Gang WANG, Postodoctoral Fellow, have shared their insights in the medical development and sponsored research project in an article entitled "No more gift for mosquitoes" in the BNP internal newsletter. Dr BRUZZONE will meet BNP Paribas Hong Kong staff on 27 October, 2011 to discuss about risk and prevention of infectious diseases.

This partnership in Hong Kong is part of BNP Paribas CIB's global sponsorship programme with Institut Pasteur – a nonprofit private foundation which contributes to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. This sponsorship programme, namely "CIB for Health and Medical Research", was established in 2008 and the total global donation to date amount to 1.3 million euros.
